Speech Class Expectations
 

Course Overview: Oral communications is one of the most important skills you can have in your career and personal life. The course is designed to help you learn techniques of public speaking and to practice them in the classroom setting.

 

A Typical Speech Week
 

  • Monday-Introduction of the material and requirements of the speech will be given. Work and research will begin upon this day.
  • Tuesday-Students will research and work upon the speech.
  • Wednesday-Typed outlines are required to be handed in, and note cards will be used to present all speeches. Partner practice day and timings will also take place.
  • Thursday-Presentation of speeches.
  • Friday-Presentation of speeches.

  • Research Speech
  • Entertainment Speech
  • Manuscript Speech (Graduation Address)
  • Acceptance Speech (Homecoming or Awards)
  • Persuasive Speech
  • Group Presentation
     

Required Projects

First Semester –  The American Legion Oratorical Contest is open to all students 9-12 if interested contact: Mrs. Rivinius

 

Research
 

This class will try to utilize the internet, magazines, books, and interviews for resource information. Each speech will require at least three resources. At the beginning of the semester, you may pick topics that interest you, so you should begin to collect your resources. Make sure you use a folder and label each source that you collect. State the topic and speech that you will use the source.
