Developmental Reading

Classroom Behavior

All students will adhere to all of the rules in the policy handbook.

Tardies

An unexcused tardy will be submitted on Power School. In order to be excused, you must arrive to class with an excuse slip or admit slip from the office or another school staff member.

Dis-respectfulness

Any dis-respectfulness toward the teacher or a fellow classmate will not be tolerated. Assigned seating and no classroom privileges will be given. Avoid touching others, teasing, back talk, or any other form of disrespectful behavior.

Consequences:

First time – Warning

Second time – Will be dismissed from class and your parents will be called.

Third time – Will be in an in-school suspension.

Cheating

If you are found cheating in this class, you will earn a zero upon the assignment or test. Second offense will result in an in-school suspension.
Late Work
There is no late work. If work is handed in late, a zero will be earned. If you feel you have a valid excuse, please
visit with me prior to class time and on an individual basis.
Privileges
Leaving the classroom to talk to another educator about an assignment, locker use, office use (phone), or a drink are considered to be privileges and will not be allowed until lecture, assignments, or work is complete.
Semester Tests
Semester tests are 1/5 of your entire grade. All other daily assignments are worth 100%.

Course Overview

Reading is one of the most important skills you can have in your career and personal life. This course is designed to help you improve your reading skills and to practice them in the classroom setting to enhance your academic success overall.

Required Activities

STAR READER – Tests Grade level of reading
Read Naturally – Program that covers fluency, comprehension, writing skills, and critical thinking skills.
Core Reading – Program covers fluency, improves vocabulary and spelling, and comprehension.
Interventions
Silent reading
Partner reading
Oral Expression reading
CORE READING (how to improve vocabulary in subject areas)
Room Recess


Students and teacher will monitor progress of each activity on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. If progress does not occur, a new intervention will be introduced to fit each child’s individual needs.
